When should you consider seeing a Podiatrist?

In addition to a routine yearly visit, you should see your podiatrist if you:

  • Experience acute or chronic pain in your ankles or feet
  • See color or texture changes to your skin or toenails
  • Notice cracks on the skin of your ankles, feet, or toes
  • Feel blisters or sores on your ankles, feet, or toes

Several medical conditions & diseases can affect your feet and your mobility. You should visit your podiatrist if you:

  • Are diabetic because diabetes can affect your blood flow, healing time, and nerve sensation. Your doctor can monitor the effects of diabetes and prescribe medications and other treatments to help keep your feet healthy and preserve your mobility.
  • Have osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, because these conditions can cause joint damage and destruction, resulting in stiffness, pain, and loss of flexibility. Your doctor can prescribe medications and physical therapy to minimize inflammation and preserve your flexibility.
